Whoa, where has this year gone? I had been thinking of what I was going to do for the usual favorite stuff of the year article since all the back in December, but there were a few things I had not been able to check out yet that I had a feeling I should consider for the list. Now, all of a sudden, it’s freaking April? How did this happen? I suppose time flew by while dealing with my computer deciding to stop working on two occasions. But hey, we’re here now, so let’s get through this.

Favorite Game – Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

This is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the game I played more than anything else in 2018. I’m still playing it, and you can watch me on Twitch! This game acts as a greatest hits of the Monster Hunter franchise. There is so much content and always something new to do, and playing online is a great example of what a positive community can bring to a game.

Favorite Book – Super Mario Encyclopedia

I don’t have this yet, but I just think it’s cool that it exists at all. The world of Mario is so incredibly expansive, but the details are kind of all over the place, so having a book that at least tries to put it all together is a good thing.

Favorite Toy – NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie figures

These have been hard to find, and I don’t have them yet, but I desperately want them and I know they are out there somewhere. Just look at these amazing figures. They look like the characters from the 1990 movie stepped out from the screen. The fact that these came out at all is mind-blowing, and now that they are not convention exclusives anymore is fantastic. I hope everyone who wants to get their hands on them has the chance. Especially me!

Favorite TV Series – Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I would not have thought that I’d like this show, and I still have not seen very much of it. It looks and feels so completely different than what you’d expect from TMNT. You’d think I’d hate it, but I can’t! The animation is just so totally rad! It’s unlike any other cartoon I’ve seen in a long time. And it actually has a few good laughs too.

Favorite Anime – SSSS Gridman

A very interesting show! It takes the kaiju and tokusatsu elements that you’d expect from an anime remake of a live action super hero series, and adds so much more to it. The monsters and mecha are all super cool, but it’s the characters and mysterious scenario that make you keep watching.

Favorite Movie – Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse

What an amazing, triumphant film. The unique animation style is an artistic achievement, and the story takes the concept of alternate universes (which could have easily came across as hokey and clunky) and uses it to make a truly heartfelt tale about being a hero. There just are not enough animated action movies, and I hope that the success of this film means there will be more.

Ok, we finally got all of that out of the way. Looking back, there were a lot of other things to like about 2018, and I didn’t necessarily pick the things that I though I would have wanted to showcase before it all shook out, which means that the year had some good surprises. I’m hoping for more!

We now join 2019, which is already in progress.

8 new Illustrations!

Hey! I hope everyone else is enjoying the holidays! Personally, I am not really paying much attention!

December 2018 Illustration updates

I’ve added 8 new pieces to the Illustration page. There’s Hellboy, Skeletor, Sakura, Thanos, Luigi and more! Even Spawntimus Prime and Girl-Rodimus! What?! Yeah, those are things that I drew.

That’s everything I’ve got in the bank at the moment. I’ll have to make some more in the upcoming new year. Any ideas?

Inktober Aftermath 2018

In case you missed it elsewhere, here is my complete output from Inktober this year. I scanned all 31 entries and combined them together into one image. During the course of the month, there were a few times were I would notice a that the pictures had a lot of shadow on them, the contrast and clarity wasn’t very good, or there were a couple things that could have used a touch-up right after taking the picture, so this combined image is a much better look at all 31 cards I drew. Clicking on it will take you to my DeviantArt page where you can enlarge it and take a closer look.

I’ve also got a video on my Instagram showing all the cards together in a binder. It’s cool seeing them all in one place!

Inktober was challenging but fun. I’m glad I got something done for every day, and maybe I learned something in the process. But I’ve been enjoying going back to other artwork in full color on my Cintiq since the month ended. I’ll have more to share soon.

Inktober 2018

Once again I am participating in Inktober, where artists are encouraged to do a drawing every day using ink. Last year, I just kinda did whatever I felt like and just did them all in my sketchbook. This time, I am following the official daily prompts list as suggested by Inktober creator Jake Parker to get ideas for what to draw every day. But I’m also keeping to a theme of my own, with every entry being some kind of weird girl character. Hey, what can I say? I just like drawing weird girls.

Also, all of my drawings are being done on artist trading cards, which are 2.5″x3.5″. I was thinking that choice would make things easier and less time consuming, but maybe not! It has its own challenges drawing that small, but the results are pretty cool when a bunch of them are together. Here’s a look at the first 6 days worth of drawings in a binder.

You can follow my Inktober adventure on Twitter, Tumblr, or Instagram!

I wouldn’t say that all of my drawings thus far are really good. Some of them are ok, and some of them could have used some corrections. But Inktober isn’t really about that. It’s about trying your best to make something consistently and practicing new things. So far, I have not missed a day, and I plan on seeing it through to the bitter, ink-covered end.

New art finally added!

I had not added any artwork to the Illustration page in over a year. I suppose that I thought that I did this already, because I drew these months ago. Well, anyway, here they are.

We’ve got a few fan arts and some original pieces that I think are pretty cool. A few of these newly added images I made using a style I’ve been experimenting with. And there’s even a new traditional painting, which I had not done in a long time.

This is not the end of it, though! I have more artwork besides these in the bank. I’d have them up now too, but that would be too much for one update. It won’t be long before I add them here as well. At least, I don’t anticipate that the next time I do this again will be another year from now.
