This artwork is specifically based on the Transformers War For Cybertron: Siege version of Optimus Prime. In fact, I looked right at the toy as I drew it. I held up the figure and drew what I saw in a sketchy way, not really caring if the line art was perfect. I think that adds to the war-worn feeling that Siege had. Then for the color and background, I took inspiration from the Siege packaging artwork and combined it with my own style.
I just wanted to crank this out quickly and embrace the rough qualities of the lines, but as I continued to work on it I maybe put more effort into capturing the feel of Siege than I thought I was going to. In the end it became on of my best works, even though it was just meant to be something fast and sketchy. That happens to me sometimes. Maybe a lot of times.
