Digital painting of this epic crossover done for The Iron Giant Project, a collection of artwork based on and inspired by the Iron Giant animated film.
Apparently this was hanging up at The Labyrinth in Toronto but I didn't get down there to see it.
The Iron Giant is one of my all time favorite movies. When the opportunity came along to do a piece of artwork to celebrate the film and have it showcased, I had to do something. Of course I left it to the last minute so it's not as good as it could be. Colors turned out more purple than I intended due to monitor calibration.
The idea of this piece is to present the Iron Giant in his rightful place among the great robots of pop culture by having him meet Astro Boy. You just know that they would be great friends. I wanted to include Mazinger Z and Optimus Prime too, but ran out of time.
I guess it works well having Astro there since his own animated movie is likely to go down the same historical path as a low box office cult classic that the Iron Giant did.
